Blake Childers is an American composer dedicated to creating and preserving the rich traditions of music. Born in the small town of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Blake grew up surrounded by a family whose lives were steeped in creativity and support. His father, Billy Childers, was both an accomplished yoga instructor and a talented musician whose early influence helped spark Blake’s fascination with music. His mother, Lindsey Kinslow, is the principal of the local elementary school and has remained a steadfast source of encouragement through every challenge and milestone. Blake’s stepfather, Morgan Kinslow, played perhaps the most pivotal role in shaping his classical interests. As a tuba player with the Paducah Symphony in Kentucky, Morgan inspired Blake to pick up an instrument and discover the joy of performance.
Blake’s own musical journey began in the sixth grade, when he started playing trumpet in his middle school band. What began as a simple curiosity soon grew into a profound passion, driving him not only to perform but to create. Throughout high school, he started arranging some of his favorite songs into pieces that he and his friends could enjoy together. This love for arranging soon found an audience. When he was asked to assemble a group to perform at a beauty pageant fundraiser for his school, it marked the first time Blake had the chance to share his work publicly. The experience was transformative. Shortly afterward, he was invited to bring the ensemble back together for a performance at a public event in downtown Cadiz, further affirming how meaningful it was to see his music come alive before an audience.
Today, Blake is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Music and New Media at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He continues to explore new avenues for composition, blending traditional influences with contemporary ideas. Most recently, Blake celebrated a major milestone when his first original work, Safely Home, was performed in the University’s performance hall.
With a deep respect for tradition and a drive to innovate, Blake remains committed to sharing music that resonates across generations.
